The Fir Cone Lace stitch pattern is a popular stitch pattern to use for baby blankets and shawls. This stitch pattern is created by repeating the same rows several times, making it easy to memorize and fun to knit. This stitch pattern is worked over 16 rows, making it a fairly large lace motif. All the Wrong Side rows are worked in purl stitches and on the Right Side, only two rows are needed to create the pattern. Rows 1, 3, 5, and 7 are the same. On Rows 9, 11, 13, and 15, the stitch pattern is offset, and the same instructions is worked for these rows.<\/p>\n
Jen works a Fir Cone Lace swatch back and forth in rows, over a multiple of 10 plus 1 stitches as follows:<\/p>\n
Row 1 (RS): K1, *yo, k3, sk2p, k3, yo, k1; rep from * to end.<\/p>\n
Row 2 (WS): Purl all stitches.<\/p>\n
Rows 3 \u2013 8: Rep rows 1 & 2 another 3 times. (6 rows)<\/p>\n
Row 9: K2tog, *k3, yo, k1, yo, k3, sk2p; rep from * to last 9 sts, k3, yo, k1, yo, k3, ssk.<\/p>\n
Row 10: Purl all stitches.<\/p>\n
Rows 11 \u2013 16: Repeat rows 1 & 2 another 3 times. (6 rows)<\/p>\n
Rep rows 1 \u2013 16 for pattern.<\/p>\n
Once Jen has finished demonstrating the stitch pattern, she discusses that this stitch pattern is worked from the bottom up, making it a great choice for projects like bottom-up sweaters. If it\u2019s used for a project that is worked from the top-down, the fabric will be \u201cupside-down\u201d in the final piece, changing the orientation of the stitch pattern.<\/p>\n
